ACDP calls on SADC, AU and UN, particularly President Zuma to urgently call thorough investigation into the “disappearance” of nearly 2, 000 polling station results in Kinshasa
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ACDP President Hon. Kenneth Meshoe MP said today:

“According to the Carter Center, the provisional presidential election results in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced by the Independent National Election Commission (CENI) lack credibility for a number of reasons. Most independent election observers who were in the DRC during the elections have told same stories of massive corruption that has taken place during and after the elections.

It is shocking and totally unacceptable that South Africa that claims to believe in justice, transparency and democratic principles has allegedly accepted and given credibility to the provisional results that were marred by violence and serious irregularities that included the disappearance” of about 2,000 polling station results in Kinshasa.

It is a shame that the leadership of SADC, the AU and the United Nations (AU) did not demand transparency from the DRC government when cries of vote-rigging, fraud and corruption were raised not only by voters in the DRC, but also by concerned Congolese in different parts of the world, including SA, London and Belgium/France. It is disgraceful that both SADC and the AU conveniently remained silent when suspected “fraudulent” election results were “splashed” in the media to deceive the world.

The ACDP calls on leaders of SADC and the AU, particularly President Zuma, to urgently call for a thorough investigation into the “disappearance” of nearly 2,000 polling station results in Kinshasa, and have a recount of all disputed results before the Supreme Court validates them before the end of this week. This we believe, will help avert the much spoken about civil war in the DRC. Another war in the DRC is not in the best interest of South Africa, because if it does take place, then we will have a flood of refugees in this country who shall have fled from their country. The South African government, led by President Zuma, should be seen to be doing more to avert another war in the DRC. Let transparency peace and justice prevail in the Democratic Republic of Congo”.
